Viktor Goltsev – Shota Rustaveli and His Poems – 1948
A life and profile of the medieval Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli, written by a prominent Russian specialist on the subject. Rustaveli lived in the 12th century and was best-known for his epic poem, The Knight in the Panther’s Skin, which has since essentially become the national poem of Georgia. He remains widely celebrated and read around Russia and the former Soviet Union. The author, Viktor Goltsev (1901–1955), was a Russian critic focussed on Georgian literature who translated and edited a number of Rustaveli’s works in the first half of the 20th century.
