Ameen Rihani – The Book of Khalid – 1973
An unusual edition of what is considered to be the first ever Arab-American novel, by the Lebanese-American writer Ameen Rihani. First written in 1911, it tells the story of two Lebanese men who leave to find work in the US. With illustrations by Khalil Gibran, a contemporary and friend of Rihani who also travelled from Lebanon to New York in the early 20th century. Published in 1973 by the Rihani House in Beirut. Hardback, in good condition. Original jacket which is faded and rubbed. Clean inside with no writing or inscriptions.
