The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam – 1940s
A very well-preserved and attractive edition of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, beautifully illustrated in colour, published in the late 1930s or early 1940s. The Rubaiyat is a four-line structured poem attributed to the Persian poet-astronomer Omar Khayyam (1048–1131). It gained prominence in the Western world in the second half of the 20th century following the English translation by Edward Fitzgerald, which is used in this edition. With 16 full-page colour tipped-in illustrations by Hungarian artist Willy Pogany. Hardback. Bound in decorative cream cloth. Neat previous owner’s inscription. In very good condition indeed. 110 pages, sized 23 x 15 cm.
