An attractive English translation of the Quran, published in London, using the translation by George Sale. Sale was a British scholar and lawyer who made the first direct translation of the text from Arabic to English, in 1734. The book includes notes by the translator and other background. Hardback, bound in red cloth. Not dated inside, but published in the 1890s by Frederick Warne as part of its Chandos Classics series. In good condition. Some fading and toning to cloth. Binding tight and square. Neat previous owner’s name.
