Illustrated throughout in B&W wood engravings, depicting various characters and scenes from the plays. Includes a preface and introduction to the life of Shakespeare. Published by Cassell and Company in London in 1896. Hardback, bound in quarter red morocco with marbled boards and endpapers. Five raised bands to the spine with gilt lettering and floral motifs. 1,070 pages. In good condition. Minor rubbing and bumps externally. Neat contemporary owner’s inscription dated 1899.
