Vladimir Nabokov – Lolita – First Arabic Edition 1959
A rare example of the first Arabic translation of Nabokov’s controversial novel, issued in the same year as the first single-volume edition in English. The very first copies of the book were printed in two softcover volumes in Paris in 1955, and then banned by the French government a year later. It was then published in the US and the UK several years later. Nabokov wrote the book in English – the novel was not published in Russian until 1967. This edition was published by the Commercial Office for Printing, Distribution, and Publishing in Beirut in 1959. Considered to be a complete and accurate translation with no omissions. Hardback, a later binding in red synthetic with lettering and raised bands to spine. Clean inside with no writing or markings. 410 pages.
