The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam – 1902
A stunning 1902 edition of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, bound in full tree calf and in superb condition. The Rubaiyat is a four-line structured poem attributed to the Persian poet-astronomer Omar Khayyam (1048–1131). It gained prominence in the Western world in the second half of the 20th century following the English translation by Edward Fitzgerald, which is used in this edition. Hardback, published by Macmillan in London in 1902, a later printing of the 1859 first edition using the Fitzgerald translation. Bound in full polished tree calf with gilt borders. Decorative spine with five raised bands, gilt lettering against a burgundy compartment. Marbled endpapers, gilt top edge. In very good condition indeed. Clean inside with no writing or inscriptions. 290 pages.
