Margaret Atwood – The Handmaid’s Tale – First Edition 1986
A first edition, first printing of Margaret Atwood’s seminal dystopian novel. It follows Offred, a Handmaid living in the Republic of Gilead, an imagined future America.  Exploring the subjugation of women in a patriarchal society, the decimation of women’s rights, and their subsequent struggle to regain them, this book remains relevant even in the present day. The book was first published in Canada in 1985, before the first US and UK editions a year later, which feature the now-iconic artwork by illustrator Fred Marcellino. This is a first edition, first printing published by Jonathan Cape in London in 1986. In very good condition with original clipped wrapper. Clean inside with no writing or marking. Minor spotting to flaps, slight edgewear to jacket. Binding square and tight. A very collectible title, and increasingly difficult to find in this condition.
