Mario Puzo – The Godfather – 1969 First Edition
A first impression, first edition of the classic mafia novel by Mario Puzo, famously adapted into the acclaimed movie trilogy by Francis Ford Coppola. This was Puzo’s third book, and remained on the US bestseller lists more than a year after its first publication. First editions have since become increasingly scarce and collectible. It tells the story of the New York-based Corleone crime dynasty and the unlikely rise of a reluctant youngest son to take over the family business. Hardback, published by G.P. Putnam in New York in 1969. Original unclipped jacket, in very good condition, with some edgewear and creasing to extremities. Bound in white cloth with quarter-black cloth. Clean inside with no inscriptions or writing. Binding is tight with no lean. No foxing or spotting to contents or text block. The true first US printing of the book, with correct Library of Congress Catalog and Card Number of 69-11465 and other identification points, and the distinctive puppet cover design.
