An original official notice announcing the death of Nizar Qabbani, the Syrian poet and diplomat, on 30 April 1998. It includes the official government announcement for his repatriation and burial in Damascus, and would have been attached outdoors to walls and other public places in the city. Printed by the Modern Printers in Al Marja Square, Damascus. 35cm x 24cm unframed. In fair condition. Tape marks visible along the top edge and parts of the sides, most likely from where the announcement had been affixed to a wall or a surface for an extended time. Horizontal closed tear to the middle of the sheet. Bottom left-hand corner has an area of peeling paper with a patch from another document or label, possibly an attempt to reinforce or repair part of the sheet. A few other stains and smudges resulting from outdoor exposure. A rare and culturally significant piece of Arabic literary history. Sold framed and mounted.
