A wonderful two-volume set of the first printings of The Jungle Book and The Second Jungle Book, published in 1894 and 1895 respectively, in superb condition. Set in India, where Kipling lived as a child, the tales include characters such as Mowgli and Baboo, and have been adapted into multiple screen versions over the years. The books are beautifully designed and bound, with elaborate gilt animal designs to the front boards and black-and-white illustrations throughout, some of which are by Kipling’s father. Both volumes hardback, published by Macmillan in London. Bound in the original blue cloth with decorative boards and spine. With engraved frontispieces in each book. In very good condition. Gilt lettering and designs remain bright and clear. Little to no bumping to corners. Clean inside with no inscriptions, marking or bookplates. A fantastic set of one of the best-known children’s books of all time, and rare to find both volumes in this condition.
